BetterUp is looking for an exceptional individual who is mission-driven, team-oriented, and agile to join our legal team as Labor & Employment Counsel. Reporting to the Head of Legal & Privacy, you will  be a key partner with cross-functional teams to help scale our fast growing global workforce.

What you’ll do:

  • Assigned responsibility for the People Team, Network Operations, and related legal matters as assigned by the Head of Legal & Privacy;
  • Provide legal advice and support to senior leaders and the People Team on a broad range of employment issues such as policies and procedures, recruiting; hiring; employee relations; discipline and terminations; internal investigations; leaves of absence; wage and hour compliance; benefits, EEO compliance; restrictive covenants; labor law issues and contingent worker issues;
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and manage projects with a team-oriented approach;
  • Evaluate employment practices, policies, and processes to assess and execute priorities, and ensure compliance;
  • Investigate and respond to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries;
  • Conduct audits, classification reviews, and support other compliance efforts;
  • Assist in managing outside counsel on employment matters

If you have some or all of the following, please apply:

  • 5-7 years work experience as a licensed attorney advising on global and domestic employment matters;
  • Demonstrated experience scaling a diverse global workforce
  • Start-up experience required;
  • Experience in pre-litigation and litigation matters;
  • JD with active membership of a State Bar
