About the Role

The Video Clients team is looking for a Senior Engineer to work on our living room clients, including the video player SDK that provides low latency playback for Twitch/IVS.

You'll experience the best of both worlds while working on a brand new AWS service at Twitch—you'll be immersed in Twitch's creator-first culture and enjoy our perks while moving fast to build a new business.

You'll work on projects like optimizing playback of video on performance constrained devices, expanding playback support on new client platforms, building tooling to accelerate the testing and development in a growingly diverse device landscape, and use metrics at scale to address important production issues. You'll report to the Engineering Lead of Living Room, and work with other team members to build a world class playback experience.

You can work in San Francisco, CA; Irvine, CA; Seattle, WA; New York, NY; and Salt Lake City, UT.

You Will:

  • Take ownership of key components of the IVS web player SDK on living room web enabled devices
  • Leverage bleeding-edge web technologies like WebTransport and WebAssembly
  • Experiment to decide and collaborate with backend video teams like the ingest, transcode, and distribution teams to build interactive video experiences that adapt to unique living room concerns
  • Help to define and lead client automation and tooling across diverse living room environments

You Have:

  • 5+ years of professional software development or equivalent expertise
  • Expertise with modern web technologies like TypeScript, ES6, Webpack, and NPM
  • Low-level experience building JavaScript/TypeScript libraries/frameworks, or experience optimizing usage of front-end frameworks
  • Experience working on a variety of video enabled devices
  • Experience with software architecture fundamentals, such as async programming, object-oriented design, abstractions, software design, and multiple testing methodologies

Bonus Points

  • Experience working with connected TVs, consoles, and OTT devices
  • Experience working with React Native or other similar cross-platform frameworks
  • Experience working with web media APIs like Media Source Extensions, Encrypted Media Extensions, MediaCapabilities, WebCodecs
  • Experience working with web players like hls.js, Shaka Player, dash.js, video.js
  • Experience working with native players like AVPlayer, or Exoplayer
  • Familiarity with C++

The base pay range for this position in Colorado, Connecticut and Washington is $178,020 - $217,580 yr and in New York City is $195,840 - $239,360 yr. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
