About the Role

The API Platform team builds high-traffic, internet-facing services that power Twitch websites, mobile clients, and console applications. Our GraphQL edge service is one of the biggest in the industry based on performance, throughput, and sheer number of downstream services it uses. As engineering manager on the GraphQL team, you will run the daily operations of the GraphQL team and supervise the engineers on the team. You will work closely with multiple product teams to design our GraphQL schema that powers the latest Twitch features, while providing a low-latency and responsive user experience.

You'll report to the Engineering Manager for API in San Francisco, and we're open to candidates in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Irvine, or Seattle, WA.

You Will:

  • Take an ownership role on a software engineering team that designs, builds, and maintains services that drive the experiences of viewers on Twitch
  • Run the day-to-day operations of GraphQL systems which includes prioritizing engineering work, defining sprints, and conducting operations meetings.
  • Accelerate career development and foster exceptional engineering talent
  • Partner with the cross functional product teams to inform product direction and translate project vision into an executable engineering roadmap.
  • Partner with the group Sr. Manager to inform the mission, vision and strategy of the team.
  • Collaborate with teams from across the company on Twitch-wide programs such as Central Tech Initiatives.
  • Gather feedback from customers to determine prioritization of engineering work.

You Have:

  • 4+ years of work experience as an engineering manager supervising at least 3 engineers.
  • Experience running the day-to-day operations of software engineering projects of significant complexity.
  • Experience in hiring and developing engineers under your supervision.
  • Experience gathering feedback from customers to inform engineering prioritization.
  • Passion for operational excellence and continuous process improvement
  • A solid ability to code!

Bonus Points:

  • Experience writing Golang or React.js in production systems
  • Hands-on experience building and scaling services using Amazon Web Services
  • Familiarity with scheduling and ticket management tools such as JIRA
  • You are a Twitch user yourself
