About The Role:

Providing software that can be molded to fit an incredible variety of uses and applications to our expanding customer base presents unique legal opportunities. As our Commercial Counsel EMEA, you would be one of the first members of Notion’s Legal Team and our first team member in EMEA. You will have the chance to help build the commercial legal foundation to help Notion meet its ambitious goals. We are looking for a team member who is excited about our passionate user base and is interested in joining a dedicated cross-functional team that engages with our customers and vendors.

This role will be based in our Dublin office. However, under current circumstances, remote work is being accommodated in order to comply with safety measures.

What You'll Achieve:

  • Have broad responsibility for commercial legal support in EMEA and serve as the primary legal point of contact for the EMEA Go-to-Market team
  • Provide practical day-to-day and strategic advice to the sales, marketing, and success teams
  • Negotiate and identify independently creative legal solutions for in-bound commercial transactions, including customer subscription agreements and data processing agreements
  • Assist in development and implementation of efficiencies in the self-service and the commercial negotiation processes and contract lifecycle management in collaboration with sales and finance team leadership
  • Develop and revise contract templates as necessary, based on changes in the product offerings, organization, and/or applicable law
  • Develop education, information, and training materials for the sales organization on relevant topics such as the contracting process, key contract issues, data privacy, and legal compliance in the sales and contracting processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across the organization to ensure agreements are consistent with internal policies and processes
  • Advise internal clients regarding legal issues including compliance with the GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, and other privacy regulations
  • Review a broad range of inbound supplier agreements including software and SaaS, professional services and outsourcing, IT infrastructure, and marketing and advertising technology
  • Provide in-bound commercial transaction support to Sales team in APAC (responsibility shared with AMER based team members)

Skills You'll Need to Bring:

  • Solicitor or Barrister (qualified to practice law in Dublin, Ireland)
  • 6+ years of combined experience practicing as a technology transactions or commercial attorney within a law firm and software technology company
  • Deep subject matter expertise in commercial transactions, SaaS, and enterprise B2B transactions
  • Knowledge of privacy regulations (GDPR, e-Privacy Directive, etc.) and the ability to incorporate and revise those evolving requirements into the customer facing agreements
  • Desire to help cross functional teams build scalable processes to contract with our customers and vendors
  • Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills and ability to adapt legal requirements in balanced, creative and pragmatic ways to facilitate clear and open communication at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to directly interact with, and build meaningful relationships and trust, with internal and external clients and leaders
  • Resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to make recommendations and decisions with imperfect facts
  • Independent and strategic thought combined with excellent team player qualities (no job is too small or too large) and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities

Nice to Haves:

  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E)
  • Prior experience with a fast growing technology company
  • Experience with B2C SaaS transactions
  • Familiarity using Notion
  • French or German language skills
