Job Description

MongoDB is looking for a technical writer and storyteller to join the Event Content team to create technically accurate, immersive keynotes that tell MongoDB’s story for our highest profile events, such as MongoDB World. You'll work together with different teams across the company to build a cohesive story for world-class on-stage or virtual keynotes.

The goal is to create keynotes that not only inspire our core audience of developers, but to create best-in-class keynotes on a global scale. The Senior Technical Writer, Executive Keynotes will report to the Head of Keynote Content.

This role can be based out of our New York City office or remotely in North America.

The Team

This role is within the Event Content team, which sits within Developer Relations and Marketing, covering keynote content, production and speaker engagement to tell the MongoDB story at our largest global events. This team turns technical releases into a cohesive, exciting narrative to tell the world who MongoDB is, what MongoDB does and why it matters to audiences of mixed seniority and areas of expertise. This includes the speaker selection process, speaker management, coaching, presentation reviews, and the keynote production.

You will be a part of a global team and we encourage and support remote employees and the majority of the broader team works remotely.

You are

  • A technical storyteller with a great mix of creative and technical knowledge
  • An excellent writer and content creator with proven ability to link company values, brand and technical concepts into a compelling story 
  • Experienced in senior stakeholder management and able to strategically action feedback and offer thoughtful coaching

Position Expectations

  • Build cross-functional relationships (in person and remotely) to drive a unified and elevated story (by collaborating with Marketing, Product Management, Sales, Product Marketing, Design, Customer Success, and more)
  • Create high quality, technically accurate and entertaining keynote presentations
  • Lead table reads and rehearsals 
  • Always look for new ways to make the content engaging and the message clear
  • Travel to conference events and work with the field marketing team to ensure the keynotes run efficiently

Requirements

  • 7+ years of relevant technical experience in fields such as marketing, pre-sales, consulting, training, developer relations or product marketing/management at a SaaS or Database company
  • Technical content writing experience
  • Ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile and fast-paced environment
  • Great collaboration and communication skills – keynote production takes a village
  • An eye for design and storytelling in creating presentation materials (design skills are not required, you will work with a Design team to bring our keynotes to life)
  • Proficient command of the English language
  • Microsoft PowerPoint and/or Apple Keynote proficiency

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree 
  • Keynote creation/production experience
  • Experience with executive speaking support
  • Video editing experience
  • Public speaking experience
  • Software development experience

Success Measures

  • In 3 months
    • Go through MongoDB New Hire Technical Training.
    • Be familiar with MongoDB's presentation style and technical message
    • Observe and support where possible at MongoDB World 2022
  • In 6 months
    • Begin ideation and collaboration with the Event Content Team and internal partners for MongoDB World 2023
    • Collaborate and support first- and third-party MongoDB event keynotes
