About the role

The Airbnb Geos team is looking for a Senior Community Manager to lead our Host Community strategy in Japan and drive Core Host Acquisition. This role reports into the GSO Manager and Country Manager.

In this role, you will accelerate and support the expansion of our Host Club ecosystem in the country/region, localizing central programs to the specific needs of the territory and developing market tactics within global guidelines. You will ensure the Clubsmeet members’ expectations, and in the process make Airbnb more successful. To that end you will execute on our global playbooks, while providing feedback on local nuances and local market dynamics, that will shape future iterations of our community programs. You will partner with our GSO, Host Community team, Public Policy, and other partners to pilot new projects, tactics and/or initiatives that can be scaled into broader cross-functional programs

You will foster shared virtual and physical gatherings that help forge authentic connections and camaraderie among club members, and in the process increase a sense of connectedness with the Airbnb teams in the country/region.

You will inform club educational needs, that in turn will influence scalable programs to ensure hosts feel supported and can be successful in their hosting journey. Y Your performance will be based on a variety of metrics that ultimately reflect the level of engagement and satisfaction of our club members in the country/region.

Growth:

  • Recruiting and onboarding new Community Leaders
  • Launching new Host Clubs in assigned country
  • Acquiring Core hosts and supporting their growth

Engagement:

  • Localizing and sending weekly toolkit communications to Community Leaders
  • Hosting weekly office hours for Community Leaders as well as events
  • Remediating / Replacing inactive Community Leaders
  • Supporting central Leader Engagement Programming and/or adapting for local language and needs
  • Generally serving as primary POC and coach for local Community Leaders: advising them and answering their questions
  • Educating Community Leaders on all significant product changes and cascade feedback on product and policy to the relevant internal stakeholders
  • You will be the primary POC between Airbnb main functions on the ground and our network of host clubs, coordinating and prioritizing x-functional activities that entail some form of Clubs participation.

Impact: 

  • Partnering closely with Regional Community Lead to develop and execute locally Community Programs with a focus on local feedback and program delivery 
  • Working with relevant regional stakeholders to help them leverage Leaders, Clubs and help them identify and test new opportunities to do so
  • Develop deep knowledge of your assigned geographic markets and become the go-to source for all host club information relating to local needs, trends and market dynamics for internal and external partners 
  • Support online and offline Community events (such as webinars meetups, and workshops to support Community, Geo and Policy Goals) goals 
  • Contribute to a global Host story repository in all serviced markets that align with policy, marketing, and communications needs 
  • Support the development and execution of regional pilots
  • Support the development, execution and scale of in market pilots to better support our Hosting Community and drive Host Success
  • Act as a go to for Community team with regards to local insights and feedback 

 

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience in Community Management or Host Supply Management (with an emphasis in community management) in Japan. 
  • Master's or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is plus
  • Fluency in Japanese and English. Business experience in Japanese organization or experience in Japan is plus
  • You are strategic in your thinking; proven ability to drive growth and scale communities by setting and executing a targeted strategy.
  • You have a field marketing experience to understand the global strategy and program, scale it across the regions, and make impacts on the field
  • You have a growth and analytical mindset. You think and act like an entrepreneur. You are resourceful and goal driven. 
  • You have a good capability of business communication with various types of stakeholders, including senior level executives, government officials, members of  local municipalities etc.
  • Ability to manage influence through persuasion, negotiation, and consensus building
  • Strong empathy for our community AND passion for revenue and growth
  • Deep understanding of value drivers in recurring revenue business models
  • Analytical and process-oriented mindset
  • Enthusiastic and creative leader with the ability to inspire others
  • Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable with Excel, Google Docs, Salesforce CRM, and other technology solutions for driving supply acquisition.
