About the Role

Twitch is building the future of live interactive entertainment, and video is at the very core of that vision. Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS) is an AWS Service built within Twitch that enables AWS developers to easily leverage the low-latency, highly-distributed, live video platform that powers all Twitch applications. The Video Transcode team at Twitch oversees the core video processing services that cover Transcoding Packaging and HLS media generation for hundreds of thousands of live concurrent channels. The team is also responsible for multiple other programs including building scalable transcoding solutions, integrating new codecs and technologies and supporting different video formats.

The Video Transcode Team is looking for a Senior Engineer with experience in designing, implementing and deploying video transcoding solutions. You have experience designing and implementing DRM protocols for video streaming applications.

You can work in San Francisco, CA; Irvine, CA; Seattle, WA; New York, NY; and Salt Lake City, UT.

You will report to the Engineering Manager, Video Transcoding.

You Will:

  • Manage server-side Digital Rights Management (DRM) architecture, implementation and delivery.
  • Define and implement DRM protocols in the video transcoding pipeline: Implement the encryption steps in the video transcoding pipeline and define and execute the integration with other services. Maintain Low Latency DRM streaming.
  • Lead the architecture, design and implementation of new features and functionalities using C++ and AWS platforms
  • Adopt new techniques and processes to improve E2E video delivery
  • Build an understanding of transcoding, video architecture, and video engineering

You Have:

  • 5+ years of relevant software development experience
  • Experience in designing, implementing and deploying video transcoding solutions
  • Expertise in DRM requirements for video streaming applications
  • Experience designing and implementing DRM protocols
  • Experience leading large cross-team projects
  • Passion for operational/engineering excellence and raising the engineering bar
  • Knowledge of best practices for the full software development life cycle

Bonus Points

  • Experience with video and audio codecs (H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1, AAC, OPUS) and video compression products and solutions
  • Experience with video containers and transmission protocols: FLV, RTMP, MPEG TS, MP4
  • Experience with video compression and delivery protocol: HLS, Dash, etc
  • A Bachelor or preferably Master or PhD, in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience using AWS services

The base pay range for this position in Colorado, Connecticut and Washington is $178,020 - $217,580 yr and in New York City is $195,840 - $239,360 yr. Pay is based on market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on payment and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
