What Expel is looking for in applicants

Does the idea of being at the center of an amazing team of engineers, solving complex technical problems and delivering a solution that customers love sound like the best day ever? Do your proudest moments come from seeing your teams pull together to deliver something outstanding? If so, read on!

At Expel, we help businesses bridge the cybersecurity talent gap by providing transparent managed security. To do this we build technology to make sure our security analysts are solving important problems, and robots are handling the rest. We delight in using technology to make security accessible (nay, even enjoyable) for our customers.

We're looking for that special someone who loves to lead and inspire engineering teams to deliver clean, secure, and sustainable solutions. You recognize the importance of balancing efficient, scalable delivery with productive collaboration and experimentation. You find building teams and creating space for engineers to innovate highly rewarding. You are curious to learn more about the Expel Managed Phishing product and lead a team of engineers to deliver on the product roadmap.

Our engineering leaders value intelligent execution over heroics, innovation through rapid iteration, and being actively inclusive and supportive. We deliver consistently, and we use data to measure quality and drive us to always get better at what we do. If this sounds like the kind of team you'd like to join, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Continue your technical and leadership journey through education and mentorship.

What you can do for Expel

  • Guide multiple teams to work together on large scale projects and deliver on business goals with timely, iterative execution.
  • Build understanding of how the work of teams and individuals ties to company strategy and goals.

  • Contribute to activities related to budget management and resource planning, and make technical decisions in support of the product and technical roadmaps.
  • Continuously provide coaching, feedback, and career growth to engineers.

What you should bring with you

  • 7+ years professional experience as an engineer, technical lead, or manager (previous management role not required).
  • Previous experience with technical concepts such as database architectures (relational and nosql), containerization and orchestration, and a solid understanding of software development in multiple programming languages (Go, Node, Python preferred).
  • Technical experience working with cloud-native services in at least one of the top cloud providers - GCP (preferred), AWS, Azure.
  • Familiarity or aptitude for using data to understand processes and drive continuous improvement.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation, and conflict management skills across communication styles and levels and on remote/hybrid teams.
  • Ability to empower and inspire a diverse set of engineers to a common goal and appreciate individuals for their unique contributions.
  • Experience delivering SaaS applications preferred.
