About the Role

As a Security Engineer, you will join OpenAI engineers and researchers in building, operating and securing transformational AI technologies. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in at least one security engineering discipline but is motivated to contribute as a generalist. In this role, you will:

  • Drive projects in all major security verticals including: AppSec, InfraSec, OffSec and Detection and Response
  • Innovate to solve novel security problems 
  • Collaborate on cutting-edge AI research, and use AI to improve OpenAI’s Security posture 

You’ll make an impact at OpenAI by:

  • Empowering OpenAI's AI researchers and developers to do their best work securely.
  • Auditing attack surface to document and mitigate risk.
  • Implementing practical security controls in our computing environments informed by a threat model.
  • Thinking like an attacker and building like a defender. 

You may be a fit for this role if you have:

  • Experience in security or a security-adjacent field. We are open to junior, mid-level and senior candidates as we are recruiting multiple Security Engineers to join the team.
  • Experience with public cloud providers (e.g. Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure) and a desire to become an expert at protecting Azure and our Kubernetes infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with deployment tooling (Terraform, Buildkite, etc.) and security automation.
  • Knowledge of modern adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in programming (Python, Golang)
  • Ability to empathize and collaborate with colleagues, independently manage and run projects, and prioritize efforts for risk reduction.
