Research has been part of Airbnb from the beginning, ever since Paul Graham told the Airbnb founders, "go to your users." As designers, the founders embraced this advice and got on a plane to meet with Airbnb hosts that very weekend. Since those early days, the value of research has been baked into Airbnb’s product culture.


We are looking for a highly-motivated, analytical individual to help drive Airbnb’s product strategy. In this role, you will conduct rigorous and ongoing competitive product research that will directly influence Airbnb’s strategic decision making and play a key role in the highest priority initiatives across the company. 


You are at the front lines of delivering insights from around the world, making Airbnb a truly global/local product. No small feat when Airbnb is in 192 countries.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of Airbnb’s own product and competitive landscape
  • Develop a methodology to track competitor responses to biannual product launches
  • Work with cross-functional partners to surface competitive strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to senior leaders 
  • Draw insights from in-depth heuristic evaluation of competitor products to influence product and marketing decisions and identify strategic opportunities
  • Synthesize market data, news and trends about the accommodations and broader travel industry to anticipate the needs of our community
  • Create and present compelling deliverables to a range of audiences and forums
  • Complete a high-volume of projects by delegating and reviewing the work of 1-2 junior analysts

Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience, ideally a mix of management consulting, product, strategy, or research. MBA or related degree is a plus.
  • Experience conducting in-depth secondary research that informs strategy and generates product recommendations
  • Experience conducting heuristic evaluation of digital products or using frameworks to structure and synthesize complex information
  • Ability to confidently and effectively communicate with senior leaders
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across multiple teams and functions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously without sacrificing quality or deadlines
