Airbnb is seeking a skilled Motion Designer to join our growing Studio Design team. This is an opportunity to bring additional specialization to our design system, visual language, and both current and future Airbnb products. 

Responsibilities

  • Transform static product moments into surprising and delightful interactive ones
  • Adapt and evolve our motion language, guidelines and principles
  • Further incorporate motion into our design system via motion patterns and tooling 
  • Create a variety of motion design documents including storyboards, animatics, creative briefs, motion specs, and motion guidelines
  • Co-define project strategy and objectives and set the vision for the user experience
  • Lead complex projects and initiatives and execute deliverables at the highest level from both a creative and technical standpoint
  • Serve as an implementation intermediary between design and cross-platform engineering (iOS, Android, web) 
  • Partner with Experience Designers, Visual Designers, Engineers, Researchers and Content Strategists to define problems and goals, prototype interactions, and craft production deliverables at the highest quality in service of an initiative, e.g. animations, prototypes, user flows, presentations, and design specifications
  • Coach and empower designers to think about how things feel, move, act, sound, and convey emotion
  • Facilitate training sessions on animation workflows and tooling
  • Provide art direction and client support to agency and freelance motion talent 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience on a creative team, either in-house or agency
  • 3+ years of leadership experience (Individual Contributor or Manager)
  • Expert knowledge of time-based visual storytelling
  • Expert creative and technical problem solver with a fanatical attention to detail
  • Diverse experience delivering motion studies, animations, transitions, and other motion work for consumer-facing applications, websites, marketing, broadcast and film
  • Depth of experience in a variety of design and animation tools 
  • Demonstrated ability to help a team navigate ambiguity, set vision and strategy for global products
  • Strong communication and diplomacy/stakeholder management skills
  • Self directed, can work autonomously and lead others to deliver on a goal

The starting base pay for this role is between $180,000 and $235,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, experience, and skills. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits
