What Opentable is looking for in applicants

Senior Product Designer, Consumer Web

For over 20 years we’ve been connecting diners and restaurants for millions of date nights, birthdays, Taco Tuesdays, happy hours and just-because dinners. Dining behaviors and restaurant operations are ever changing, especially now, and at OpenTable you’ll be playing a crucial role in shaping the future of the dining industry as it evolves during and after the pandemic. We’d love you to join us in thoughtfully supporting both our diner and restaurant customers through the good times and the tougher ones, too, driving experiences that will be used by millions globally.

The opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our consumer product design team. You’ll work closely with a global team of product managers, product & brand designers, engineers and customers in order to craft experiences that will meaningfully impact diners and restaurants around the world.

You’ll be an influential design partner embedded in our Search and Growth teams, where you’ll own key parts of our user experience that receive millions of visits every single day. You’ll work to create, evolve and develop new experiences for diners, while balancing the needs of our users, restaurants, and the business. You’ll be expected to confidently navigate the full range of a product designer’s work—from strategy and research, through to high-fidelity designs. On some days you’ll be rapidly sketching ideas and launching experiments as A/B tests, and others you’ll be crafting a vision to set a project or team up for long-term success.

About you

As a Senior Product Designer you enjoy influencing product strategy as much as translating complex workflows into beautiful user experiences. You enjoy working through all stages of the design process, from gathering insights with research and building prototypes to test, through to visual design and working collaboratively with engineers to deliver the experience. You also have:

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates a breadth of exceptional product design work across mobile and web

  • Strong visual design skills

  • Experience designing and solving for complex workflows

  • Ability to negotiate, prioritize, and break down design work into measurable outcomes

  • Experience working closely with Product Managers and Engineers in an agile environment

  • Strong product and business thinking

  • Experience in helping define a vision for a product area

  • Experience working with and contributing to a design system is a plus

And if you aren’t sure you meet all above requirements, we’d still love to hear from you.

About diversity

We strongly believe that our design team should be as diverse as the restaurant industry and the diners we design for. We would therefore particularly welcome applications from people who are underrepresented in tech. OpenTable is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Employer.

About OpenTable

As an employee of OpenTable, you will be part of a global network that includes OpenTable and KAYAK's portfolio of metasearch brands including momondo, Cheapflights, Swoodoo, checkfelix and Mundi. Many employees are dedicated to one brand, but we all have the benefit of leveraging each other’s strengths and insights—together, we’re able to help people experience the world through dining and travel.
