What Notion is looking for in applicants

About Us:

We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like Nike, Airbnb, Slack, Samsung and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

About The Role:

You'll lead a team of engineers responsible for building the products needed so that the largest companies in the world can adopt and use Notion—audit logs, workspace analytics, electronic discovery, and more. You'll work directly with many of Notion's largest users and our Sales and Customer Success teams to develop the team roadmap and scope these products. Within engineering, you'll help evangelize Enterprise user needs so that every product team is building features that scale seamlessly to thousands of users. You will drive amazing execution on your team and, as an engineering leader at Notion more broadly, you will contribute to up-leveling Notion's engineering organization as a whole.

What You'll Achieve:

  • You'll build and manage a diverse and inclusive team of engineers working on products that enable adoption of Notion by large enterprises; you'll help unlock the biggest segment of future revenue growth for the company.
  • You'll work closely with both Notion's largest existing users and its largest prospective users, along with cross-functional peers in Sales and Customer Success, to set the strategy and roadmap for your team.
  • You'll be responsible for driving fast execution and maintaining a high-quality bar for everything your team ships.
  • You'll recruit, coach, and develop engineers; you'll ensure engineers are regularly receiving feedback and are making progress on personal and professional goals.
  • You'll participate in shaping how Notion's engineering organization works—you'll help develop our technical practices, recruiting and onboarding strategy, planning and prioritization process, and more.

Skills You'll Need to Bring:

  • You have 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams with a record of shipping in a fast-paced environment, ideally in the enterprise space.
  • You're able to speak the language of and work directly with Enterprise administrators and buyers—CIOs, CISOs, IT admins, and Heads of Business Technology.
  • You create team environments that are at once collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging—ones where engineers do their best work; you have built, or are committed to building, diverse and inclusive teams.
  • You value empathetic and direct communication—you give and receive feedback effectively and can drive alignment between engineering teams or between engineering and cross-functional partners.
  • You have a sufficiently deep background in product and technology to ask the right questions and think through different tradeoffs.
  • You have a high tolerance for ambiguity and change. You enjoy jumping into whatever areas need attention and learning as you go.

Bonus Points:

  • You have managed engineering teams at startups before, particularly during periods of rapid growth and organizational change.
  • You have built enterprise administrator-facing features—like audit logs, workspace analytics, or electronic discovery—before.
  • You've heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and others—and understand why we're big fans of their work.

Our customers come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds, not just because it's the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. If you share our values and our enthusiasm for small businesses, you will find a home at Notion.
