About the role

We’re thrilled to be expanding this year as Robinhood is hiring world-class engineering talent in India. Our new Hoodies in India will enable Robinhood to continue creating great financial products on our journey towards democratizing finance for all.

As we transform the future of finance, we invite you to help us define our place in a global conversation.

We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on technical leader to build our new Financial Crimes Engineering (FinCrimes) team from the ground up.

FinCrimes keeps the bad guys out of Robinhood and out of the financial system. Our major areas of focus are anti-money laundering and sanctions screening systems. We partner and embed with the compliance and risk teams—to embody safety first

We treat compliance and financial crimes as an engineering problem rather than an operational problem or red tape. Our work is a blend of integrating third-party vendors as well as building systems and tools from scratch. The problem space requires a hybrid of software engineering, infrastructure engineering, and big data work.

We need a technical engineering leader who can own Actimize as a system for both case management and AML solutions. In addition to building solid, performant systems this leader will build the FinCrimes team from scratch—hiring great engineers, defining the team’s roadmap, and both managing and mentoring the folks hired.

In this role:

  • You’ll develop inclusive teams in which people are empowered to do the best work of their careers.
  • You'll mentor and grow engineers while keeping them engaged and focused on the product and company vision.
  • You’ll improve the quality of Robinhood’s products and engineering by refining metrics and establishing processes for improvement
  • You’ll help implement effective engineering processes and policies that emphasize quality and forward progress.
  • You'll help set and fulfill the engineering hiring plan for the team, including sourcing, screening, and interviewing.
  • You will partner with business, operations and data science teams to deliver required FinCrimes solutions.
  • You will own the team's vision, mission, and strategy.

Some things we consider critical for this role:

  • 3+ years of software Engineering Management experience.
  • Experience as a technical leader for the business-critical system Actimize.
  • You are very organized. With many people doing many things in a fast-moving company, strong organizational skills—both for yourself and for the team—will be required.
  • You possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are able to weigh several and often conflicting constraints and make rapid choices in a fast-moving and quickly-growing company.
  • A pragmatic and structured view of build vs buy.
  • Ability to learn and use new technologies and touch any system to accomplish your goals.
  • Very data-driven. You instrument and analyze everything about your systems and team.
  • Hardworking multi-functional partner and great communicator!

Some things that would be amazing to have for this role:

  • Experience with existing financial crimes tools like Actimize.
  • Experience in FinTech and specifically FinCrimes space.
  • Experience with high-growth startups.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong open source contributions.

We’re looking for more growth-minded and collaborative people to be a part of our journey in democratizing finance for all. If you’re ready to give 100% in helping us achieve our mission—we’d love to have you apply even if you feel unsure about whether you meet every single requirement in this posting. At Robinhood, we're looking for people invigorated by our mission, values, and drive to change the world, not just those who simply check off all the boxes.

Robinhood promotes diversity and provides equal opportunity for all applicants and employees. We are dedicated to building a company that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. We believe that the more inclusive we are, the better our work (and work environment) will be for everyone. Additionally, Robinhood provides reasonable accommodations for candidates on request and respects applicants' privacy rights. To review Robinhood's Privacy Policy please visit

Robinhood's benefits include generous time off, 401(k) participation with employer match, comprehensive health coverage, a health savings account (HSA), wellness benefits, backup childcare and education stipends (all benefits are subject to applicable taxes and based on eligibility).
