BetterUp is currently seeking a Care Guide to support our members, lead their experience through the Care platform, and help them access the services they would most benefit from. This includes working with members who may benefit from clinical services with a mental health professional through our external partners, and assisting members in connecting to appropriate resources through their employer benefits ecosystem. The right individual will bring strong communication skills, crisis management experience, and interest in working with individuals experiencing physical and mental health challenges. The ideal candidate is responsive, compassionate, and has a passion for advancing the field of preventative mental wellbeing. This role is an opportunity to work alongside a diverse team of scientists, practitioners, designers, and operators in an innovative, inclusive, entrepreneurial environment. This is a part time role up to 30 hours/week, could grow into full-time.

What you'll do:

  • Be a first point of contact for BetterUp members and help orient members to the platform and direct them to the tools and resources they need
  • Respond to BetterUp members identified as needing additional support, and provide direct support and case management to these members to help them access clinical services and other benefits provided by BetterUp external partner ecosystem
  • Work closely with the Clinical Care Director to assess and connect members to appropriate resources and services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, customer care support, and leadership to respond effectively to members in need of additional support.
  • Work alongside a diverse team of guides to provide 24/7 support to members (flexible scheduling, including weekend and evening availability, a plus)

If you have some or all of the following, please apply: 

  • Training in a social work or counseling discipline (masters degree or higher preferred), and/or advanced training working in a healthcare environment (e.g. crisis response manager, peer counselor, mental health rehabilitation assistant, customer service representative in a healthcare system, etc)
  • Strong customer service skills and mindset, comfort working cross-functionally when needed
  • Case management skills, and/or 2+ years of experience providing direct clinical/counseling support and/or 2+ years of customer service experience with sensitive populations
  • Crisis management and conflict de-escalation training, particularly with higher risk populations
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and change, experience working in a fast-paced startup environment a plus
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (fluency in multiple languages a plus), and ability to quickly build and maintain rapport
  • Organization skills and attention to detail to make sure that every issue is appropriately routed
